I Remember

I remember life and all the dreams that it holds -
Carrying all that's worthwhile in its silver folds.
I remember wanting to burst forth anew,
When all I could think of were thoughts of you.
I remember the fear and the anger inside -
Choking them down because of my pride.
I remember the pain and the lack of control,
When I fell face-first into the black hole.
I remember screaming and the way that I bled -
Clinging to memories that were already dead.
I remember dying and the prison it brought,
When chains sorrow-forged for my heart were bought.
I remember what it was like to die -
Crying even though I could not cry.
I remember the day that I breathed again,
When the pain would lift ev'ry now and then.
I remember those days, I remember your name -
But I remember that things will never be the same.
