Desire

I burn with desire -
Feeding my inner fire.
Where there's flame, there's smoke,
But the gray plumes
Cause me to choke -
Hazy, haunted fumes.

I swim in a stream -
Sunlight reflecting inner dream.
Flowing water, frozen to ice,
And the frost
Chill me twice -
Desire's hidden cost.

I burn with desire -
Taking me ever higher.
I harden into ice,
For the dark chill
Has it's own price -
My life, my will.
