The Dark Is Rising

Cold harvest moon shines
Down on autumn's faded signs.
Winter's breath is coming soon
Under a pale harvest moon.
White frost, frozen designs.

You are the one who showed
To me the river that flowed
Blood red under September sky
And revealed to me the faded lie
Hidden at the end of the road.

Vague stars in the velvet night
Blend with the moon, faintly bright.
Dark claws reach across the land
As time flies fast, sinking sand.
Darkness enhanced by winter's light.

Evil is now rising to the west
As darkness springs in the chest.
Evil winds come from the south,
Blasphemes out of hidden mouth
As heart beats wild in the breast.

Winter's chill, so surprising,
Wasn't expected, now disguising
It's deadly breeze in dark cloud.
Frozen mists for a death shroud.
Now I know the dark is rising.
